A Thinkathon for Refugees: A Think and Do Day of Intellectual Activism

Stamp Student Union, Charles Carroll Room 2203
Friday, December 04, 2015 - 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

There are approximately 30 million refugees, more than at any time since World War II and the numbers surge more every day. Half are children, who are being forced to endure emotionally and developmentally devastating conditions. The crisis is both world-wide and local—Baltimore is the third largest receiver city in the United States.

WE MUST HELP

The Arts and Humanities Center for Synergy is hosting a day of intellectual activism, with expert speakers, scholars, students, formerly stateless local community members, and service providers. Our Synergy “think and do” process has proven successful at producing both short and long term ways of addressing complex problems. During the morning session we will hear from experts about the state of refugee children and best practices. The afternoon session will include themed break-out groups working on producing actions. Join us for all or part of the day. Co sponsored by: The President’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and UMD Office of International Affairs

Then, at 5:30 please be our guest at our WORLDWISE Arts and Humanities Dean’s Lecture Series event, an evening with Angelique Kidjo, “the undisputed queen of African Music” and a former refugee, in conversation with Sheri Parks. For free tickets and more information on this event go to: http://go.umd.edu/AKidjo.  Kidjo will also be performing at The Clarice on Saturday evening.
