New Directions in the Humanities

Ulrich Recital Hall, Tawes Hall
Thursday, March 02, 2017 - 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE HUMANITIES?

A number of trends—scholarly, public, societal, and funding— are influencing the direction and future of the humanities today. In this discussion, Robert Newman, director of the National Humanities Center (NHC), Julie Greene, UMD professor of history and past NHC fellow, and Kellie Robertson, UMD associate professor of English and past NHC Fellow, will share their experiences and perspectives on the value, meaning and direction of the humanities both for humanists and for contemporary society. Sheri Parks, associate dean for research, interdisciplinary scholarship and programming, will moderate the discussion.

A reception will follow the event in Tawes Hall on the 1st floor lobby. Robert Newman will be available to meet with interested faculty to discuss the NHC fellowship opportunity from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Tawes Hall, room 2115.
