IDEAS THAT SERVE - PSYCHE WILLIAMS-FORSON, AMERICAN STUDIES

12/3/14 - 7:00 PM

Psyche Williams-Forson, associate professor in the Department of American Studies, was recently awarded a Foxworth Creative Enterprise Initiative grant to support an American studies course where she will teach students about causes of food insecurity, or conditions that make people vulnerable to situations where they do not have access to sufficient, safe or nutritious food for any number of reasons- human movement, change of life or disaster.

Her course will move beyond the need to secure nutritional foods, digging deeper into cultural sustainability or relevant solutions that give people access to food that is prepared in familiar ways. Students will take this information into the community, pairing with partners like Prince George’s County Food Equity Council to think through these ideas and solutions in real-life scenarios.
