UMD-Smithsonian Institution Seed Grants Competition: Deadline April 25, 2014

Friday, April 25, 2014 - 5:00 PM

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) and the Smithsonian Institution continue to solidify and enhance the collaboration that has existed between the two institutions over many years. As part of continuing activities to foster the existing relationship and to forge new areas of collaboration, UMD and SI will again support the joint competitive Seed Grants for Research Program in 2014. Now in its fifth year, the intent of this initiative is to encourage new teams of investigators to cross institutional and disciplinary boundaries, to enhance established collaborative teams to move to the next level in their research, to establish specific high impact research foci and/or generate preliminary data to support new areas of endeavor and to encourage research that leads to new funding opportunities. In order to be considered, a proposal meeting the guidelines must be submitted no later than April 25th. The proposal should address the scientific or scholarly merits of the proposed research and identify both the research and institutional benefits, as well as potential future proposals to federal, public or private funding agencies. There are likely to be four to six awards that will range from $25,000 to no more than $50,000.

Guidelines may be found at http://www.sgsi.umd.edu/home. Proposals must be submitted online as a combined *.pdf file prior to 5pm EDT, April 25, 2014. Review and selection will occur in May; announcement of awards is anticipated in June, with funds available to begin research on or after July 1.

Questions about the program may be directed to Anne Geronimo, Director for Research Development, (301) 405-4178 or geronimo@umd.edu.
