OPEN SESSION: SOCIAL JUSTICE DAY 2019

Call for Proposals forOPEN SESSION 3:30 pm to 5 pm The University of Maryland will host its 3rd annual, Social Justice Day on Thursday, April 11, 2019. The Day will include activities focused on this year’s campus wide theme of  Immigration, Migration and Refugee issues but will also provide opportunities for colleges, faculty, staff and students to share research, catalyze dialogue, share exhibits and performances, and raise awareness on other social justice issues in which they are engaged.  To showcase the variety of social justice engagement by students, faculty and staff, we invite proposals for an Open Session, at 3:30 pm to 5 pm, on April 11, from faculty, staff and students, as well as colleges and units. Your proposed activities are organized and run by you, but by submitting the ideas to us, we can help with reserving rooms, finding partners if desired, promoting the event on UMD’s website, and printing it in a program being produced for the day.   Proposals can be from individuals or groups. Suggestions include poster sessions, dialogues, exhibitions, performances, or panels. We encourage units and colleges partnering on activities that engage research, draw on local expertise, build knowledge, and/or showcase the important work of UMD. We can help you find partners if you are interested in creating an activity with other units.  Activities during this open session do not have to center on the theme of immigration and refugees, but should address social justice in some fashion.  Please submit the attached Open Session Proposal Form by the extended deadline on Friday, March 1, 2019 via email to Ashley Richerson Miller: arichers@umd.edu. We will respond within a month of receiving the proposals
