As current trends - scholarly, public, societal, and funding - are influencing the direction and future of the humanities, this event provides an important opportunity for our community to come together for reflection and discussion. Special Guest Robert Newman, Director of the National Humanities Center (NHC), will be joined by Julie Greene, UMD professor of history and past NHC fellow, and Kellie Robertson, UMD associate professor of English and past NHC fellow, in conversation about the future of the humanities moderated by Associate Dean Sheri Parks.
Dr. Newman will also be available to meet with interested faculty to discuss the National Humanities Center Fellowship opportunity, a residential fellowship for advanced study in the humanities, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Tawes Hall, room 2115 (Faculty/Staff Lounge).
The mission of the Center is to promote and support diverse forms of inquiry in the humanities. The Center’s work engages stakeholders in innovative and inclusive approaches to understanding the value of the humanities for improving our lives.
