NEH Summer Stipend FY 2022 Internal Submission Deadline

Friday, September 03, 2021 - 5:00 PM

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The National Endowment for the Humanities’ Summer Stipends program aims to stimulate new research in the humanities and its publication. The program works to accomplish this goal by:

  • Providing small awards to individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both
  • Supporting projects at any stage of development, but especially early-stage research and late-stage writing in which small awards are most effective
  • Furthering the NEH’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the humanities by encouraging applications from independent scholars and faculty at Hispanic Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and community colleges

Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. NEH funds may support recipients’ compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research.

Award Amount: $ 6000

Note: Summer Stipends provide $6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Recipients must work full-time on their projects for these two months and may hold other non-NEH sources of support or research grants supporting the same project during this time. Summer Stipends normally support work carried out during the summer months, but arrangements can be made for other times of the year.

Campus Nomination Process:

The NEH Summer Stipends program allows two (2) TTK nominees per institution. (Non-tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply without a campus nomination.)

Your application must include individual PDFs of the components listed below. All documents
below should be single-spaced, at least 11 point font with one inch margins. No budget is required. All materials submitted for consideration for a campus nomination must follow the NEH guidelines. Materials that do not conform to the published guidelines will not be considered.

Applicants will be asked to provide the names, e-mails and affiliation for two recommenders who will be contacted by NEH to submit letters of reference. This information is not required for internal submission.

Applications must be submitted through VPR’s InfoReady Limited Submission portal by 5pm on Friday, September 3, 2021. Campus nominees will be notified no later than Wednesday, September 15, 2021. The final submission deadline to Grants.gov is Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Further information about the program and the submission process is available on the National Endowment for the Humanities site at: https://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends.
