Empathetic Engineering: An Engineer's Journey

Zupnik Lecture Hall, Rm. 1110, Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building
Thursday, November 05, 2015 - 5:00 PM

Kevin Apperson is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Maxim Healthcare Services. Named by Black Information and Technology Magazine as one of the Most Important Blacks in Technology, Apperson hires artists, humanists and engineers to design healthcare IT solutions that fit the everyday needs of both doctors and patients. Apperson will discuss  the need for engineers to make things work in actual use contexts, and the ways artists and humanists help engineers integrate the important roles of emotion into the design process.

He is featured in this year's Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture Series, established at the University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering nearly 20 years ago, celebrating the fearlessness of entrepreneurship and brings leading technology enterprise thinkers to campus who deal with the real-world challenges of a fast-paced, global economy.

The reception will begin at 4:30 pm and the program will start at 5:00 p.m. in Zupnik Lecture Hall, Rm. 1110 in the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building. RSVP here: http://go.umd.edu/AppersonWT

This special lecture is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities' Center for Synergy and the A. James Clark School of Engineering.
