Baltimore Forum: Research and the City

Overview:  This forum will serve as an opportunity for UMD-Baltimore centric researchers to connect and get to know each other and their research interests.  The event will augment discussions begun on 3/24 as part of the NEH, Baltimore Stories, Public Square grant activities. The event will be open on a first come, first serve basis to 35-50 faculty, researchers, educators, and artists at UMD whose research area/interests intersect with Baltimore, MD.

Forum Outline:  Panel discussion; one-minute/one frame presentations, lunch/networking time.

11:00 am           Welcome  Vice President and Chief Research Officer Pat O’Shea and Dean Bonnie Thornton Dill

11:10 am           Opening Remarks  Eva Caldera, Asst. Chairman for Partnership and Strategic Initiatives, NEH

11:25 am           Panel Discussion  A short panel discussion will give an overview of UMD major research thrusts which include the City of Baltimore, why this is such an important time in the city’s history, and why this is such an important time for UMD to be involved in providing support and solutions.  Sheri Parks will serve as the moderator.

Lunch will be served

11:50 am           One-minute/One-frame (1:1) Presentations  Each participant will be asked to prepare talking points – lasting no longer than one minute - on their research and/or scholarly interests in Baltimore.  These slides must be submitted in advance: https://www.cloudwok.com/u/xkaz.
