Baltimore Stories: Morrell Park: A Community Conversation Event

11/16/16 - 7:00 PM

As part of the Baltimore Stories Project, the fourth Art of Transformation event: Morrell Park: A Community Conversation Event, held a screening of a short film of Morrell Park residents sharing their views about their neighborhood -- past, present, and future.

Morrell Park is a city-border neighborhood in transition. The event provided an opportunity for the sharing of empathy across difference. There are intergenerational and cultural differences as well as unexpected intersections among long term residents and new arrivals, and between seniors and youth regarding what it means to be a part of a viable community. As one Art of Transformation organizer claims, "Morrell Park is a community you seldom here about, just beyond 95 headed West on Washington Blvd. In so many ways, they are a microcosm of our country. Deep waters there."

Art of Transformation (AoT) is a public media project to document and catalyze transformation in Baltimore through cultural means.

The Baltimore Stories project has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and is a collaboration between the University of Maryland, Maryland Humanities, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Enoch Pratt Free Library and the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance.
